To the best of my very limited wave riding knowledge I would say it has the potential of having some of the most ideal wave handling features in the world, thanks to its more open delta shape, and powerful snappy handling. Focussing on bar feedback, the kite is finely tuned for immediate input response, with minimal delay in the kites reactions. Depower is very impressive, even when the kite is lit, or moving across the wind window, again a trait that all wave riders will welcome in the surf. Build quality is no exception and Slingshot have complemented the Rally with the Slingshot Comp Stick bar, 800lb front lines, “centre of the universe swivel” and the Comp Stick Push away quick release system.

Slingshot Rally 2011

The Liquid Force HIFI Comp 2011 tried and tested

We can’t release photos yet, but rode the brand new Liquid Force 2011 HIFI Comp this weekend. The biggest changed to the design of the kite is the 4strurt design which effectively deletes the centre strut on the Kite. We took the 9M out with James Boulding, in 25 to 28mph.

The re-arranged strut pattern has created no compromises in stability, but managed to turn the kite into a boost weapon that has to be experienced to be fully appreciated.

We thought the 2010 was one of the biggest jumping kites ever created, but the 2011 has managed to noticeably dwarf the boost on last years model with mind blowing lift.

Perhaps this is down to having no centre strut, which should in theory enable more “lift surface area”. In other areas, the kite feels remarkably similar. It has the same unique bar feel that makes it so good for wakestyle. If you don’t like angry kites then I think the HIFI comp is ideal. It doesn’t react to fine small input in the bar quite so shalrpy as comparable c kites. It’s this characteristic which earn its branding as one of the wakestyle/freestyle benchmarks.  You can grab the bar in the wrong place and the kite gives you plenty of time for you to re correct any input errors.

The Hifi comp comes with the same CPR kite bar, with only minor changes. We thought the bar has a slightly increased diameter, which made it more comfortable in the hands, and a new bar grip design.

The kite came in a striking orange, black, red colour combinations which looks absolutely stunning.

Liquid Force’s new valve. With a much larger surface area, deflation is instantaneous and packing up your kite after a session is so much easier. A Great addition to the 2011 kite range.
