What is mountain boarding? Downhill mountain boarding or all-terrain boarding (ATB) is a cross between snowboarding, skateboarding and mountain biking and was originally pioneered by snowboard riders who wanted to go riding when there was no snow! Downhill mountain boarding is everything from finding a spot in your local woods and riding it with your mates to joining in one of the UK series races and jostling with some of the top riders in the country.
What equipment is required? There are many different mountain boards available and any specialist mountain board shop will be able to sort you out with suitable equipment. Is mountain boarding expensive? Fortunately, mountain boarding is one of the cheapest board sports around. You can buy a brand new quality mountain board from £99 and helmets start at around £20. The best thing about mountain boarding is that riding is free.
Where can I ride? It is possible to ride on any public property, but it is essential for the development of the sport to ride safely and sensibly. Racing down the grass slopes at your local park may seem like fun, but always be aware of other members of the public. Crashing into granny at 20mph is NOT cool. Please respect the environment and the interests of others.
What is a mountain board centre? Mountain board centres are man made parks, created solely for the use of mountain board riders, and are often the best place to ride. Centres are the perfect place to safely learn and improve your riding, and a great place to meet other riders. Every centre is different but you can expect to find well sculptured riding areas, private and group tuition, and upto date mountain board and protective equipment hire.
